IÆm finally leaving. Because EveÆs not a Sci-fi space game, and thereÆs not enough else in the game for me. ItÆs really an animated spreadsheet, and IÆve better things to do and play.

My assessment of the game after 10 months, for what it's worth to the devs:
The setting. ItÆs not a space game. Space stuff is there û planets, stars, and asteroids. But theyÆre just the flimsiest theatrical backdrop to the rest of the game. What theyÆve done is well done (the map is fantastic, IMO), but theyÆre using the thinnest possible materials. It shows. CanÆt even orbit round a planet properly. CCP show no real likelihood of deepening that in the next eighteen months, if ever. The lack of the slightest attempt at depth here really spoils EVE for me.

The PvE. This is really sad. Missions; kill ten rats; kill twenty rats. Ratting and salvage: kill ten rats; kill twenty rats; take their stuff. Exploration: difficult and dull. And itÆs not SPACE exploration is it? Just another form of ratting and salvage, really. Mining: give me a break: the ultimate MMO grind. (I write as a long term miner..)

The market: this is interesting and has become deep in its own way. ItÆs become a real player driven economy. Studied by real economists. Would love to see a paper on this area. But, for a player like me, thereÆs only so much fun you can have sitting in dock buying and selling and manufacturing.

The PvP. Fun, but only if youÆre skilled up. The real PvP action looks great, but itÆs for the long term players, the well established cliques you see represented on the forums. Solo or small group PvP? OK, but spoiled for me by the poor setting û this is when it most obvious that Eve is æemptyÆ in several senses.

Just an animated spreadsheet, like I said. Time for character delete, cancel sub.

Thanks to the players that knew me, and the devs and CCP. A final undocking, and head out into oblivion.
